The NCFL: a Football League Based on Business Ethics
From its’ very beginning the NCFL has based its principles upon doing the right thing for all involved: players, team owners, fans and communities we represent. In essence the NCFL is built upon good business ethics, a form of applied ethics that examines ethical principles and moral or ethical problems that arise in our business environment.

As many of you can imagine, ethical principles and moral practices are not always overly apparent in Football and especially adult amateur football. Yet the NCFL has strived to do just that; to make sure that we operate on the accepted principles of ethical practice.  This means at times taking the high road even if it seems to others that we should sling mud with others.  But that is not the NCFL way of doing business.

In recent months I have been talking to civic and governmental groups about the qualities that our teams and the NCFL can bring to communities. It’s our NCFL dream that someday in the near future the NCFL will bring not only football, but better men to represent their cities and neighborhoods.  We talk about the concept of “Value Added” development for all those involved; players, team owners, League, fans and the community at large.  Our message has been received in a very positive manner by those we have talked too.

Value Added for players is a real concept in the NCFL. Players are the life blood of our league.  We value them and that is why we started looking at things we could do to promote and protect our players. For example that is why we took the time to search and negotiate for player protection options which lead to our announcements of the P3 program (Player Protection Plan).  We are now going to be able to offer Limited Accidental Insurance for players which cost less than $8 per month.  Also a Limited Health Benefit plans that cost less than $150 per year and these health plans can be extended to cover their families at extra cost.
On the Owners side of the value added equation, we are now putting the final touches to our Minor League Football Ventures program which will provide expanded opportunities for Owners to share in a financial development business. At our recent Owners meeting the basic concepts where announced and well received by the team owners of the NCFL.  More details will be publicly announced soon.

The NCFL Philosophy
Some people disagree about the purpose of a business ethic in society. For example, some believe that the principal purpose of a business is to maximize returns to its owners. Thus, under this view, only those activities that increase profitability and financial value should be encouraged. Some believe that the only companies that are likely to survive in a competitive marketplace are those that place profit maximization above everything else. Some take the position that organizations are not capable of moral agency. Under this, ethical behavior is required of individual human beings, but not of the business or corporation.

The NCFL contends that our business has moral duties that extend well beyond serving the interests of its owners, and that these duties consist of more than simply obeying the law. We believe that our business has moral responsibilities to all people who have an interest in the conduct of our business, which includes employees, players, fans, vendors, the local community, and society as a whole. Our belief was evident when at the end of last season we uninvited a few teams because some of them violated our general ethical and moral business concepts.

At the NCFL we believe in Value Added development .  We will continue to strive to bring value to all those involved with the NCFL.
As further examples of our efforts to be a good business and community stewards, in the next couple of months, the NCFL will be hosting charity games for the Toys for Tots and Oakland Children Hospital. Please see our ads and notices on our League site.

Advisory Panel Appointments
In another related area of our NCFL business development, we have invited and received acceptance from several promonet business people to assist the NCFL in its long term development plan and concepts. Our Advisors will meet with the Executive Committee of the NCFL a couple times a year to go over our business development plan ideas and concepts. Their input will be invaluable for the long range development of the NCFL and its related ventures.
